Healthy and Hydrated Summer Hair

With being in the midst of summer we may start to notice the health of our hair isn’t at its best. From swimming in chlorine water to laying out at the beach- our hair has been put through drying chemicals and the sun's harsh UV rays. These are a few points we neglect when we think about the care we have for our hair. Summer can be the most damaging time for the structure of your hair but with the proper, clean products and routines— you can have the luscious locks of a mermaid.

CONDITION CONDITION CONDITION
Having a good conditioner will only set you up for success. With an increase in how much you will be washing your hair due to outside factors— a light, moisturizing shampoo/conditioner combo will cleanse away any substances that has dried onto the hair strand and then replenish the moisture of your hair. Always wash after a dip in the pool or a surf sesh. If your hair tends to get buildup quickly and clarifying shampoo before your normal routine such as the Malibu C Swimmers or the Ouai Detox shampoo will prep your hair for a deeper clean. Follow up with any duo of color safe and hydrating shampoo/conditioner. I use the Loréal Vitamino Color. If you are not using a clarifying shampoo beforehand, double wash with your everyday shampoo.
*PRO TIP
- Brush through your conditioner + let it sit before rinsing with cool water. (shaving your legs is the best pastime ;))
MASKED UP
Aside from your after pool routine, the prep before is just as important. Having a hair mask is a necessity in summer for weekly use. But using it as a shield before swimming will make for an easy brush through at the end of the day. Getting ready for your summer day should consist of spraying your hair down with distilled water until damp, brush through and apply a hair mask of your choice. Coating your hair with this mask will not only add extra moisture but prevent any damaging substances from penetrating the hair strand.
FINISHING TOUCHES
Like all good things, self care must come to an end too. The best way to seal the deal is to add finishing serums and oils into the mix. My go to is Iles # 3 serum, think of this serum as a sunscreen for the hair- protecting you from UV rays and color fading agents such as the sun and heated tools. It is also a light enough formula to give a nice refresh to whatever hairstyle you’re rocking. Adding an oil is a good way to finish a style or achieve a healthy shine to your hair. I recommend Ouai Hair Oil— a multi-tasking oil that fights frizz and prevents damages, good for all hair types! Apply 1-2 pumps mids to ends and you’ll be ready to go!
I hope this insight on a summer hair care routine will help you achieve your dream hair! All steps are safe and recommended to use to color treated + extension hair. Until next time…
