I have had a few “bad hair days” within the past couple weeks, ranging from matting, dry ends, and scalp irritation. Now while bed head may be the outcome of my post holiday slump, I knew there had to be an underlying reason for all of these hair problems I’ve been having.
As the season changes into the winter months, we need to change our hair care routine to fit into the new factors that can affect our hair + scalp health. The key to improving scalp health is to focus on scalp care. Scalp care is the new self-care, as the scalp is a main component of healthy hair growth. Your new hair care routine should include daily head massages to stimulate blood flow to the scalp and weekly oil and exfoliation treatments to the roots, which can aid in softening and removing dead skin build up.
Chilly temperatures can cause our hair follicles to lift which can stop the moisture from being locked in and can result in frizzy and brittle hair. The contrast between colder weather and higher heater temperatures will lead to dryness as well. A hair mask weekly is a must for keeping those ends strong and sealed.
Everyone is on a different schedule for our hair cycles, but the process is always - Growth, Rest and Renewal. We are bound to have hair loss during these months, like every season. During winter, your hair might enter the “resting phase” more frequently, causing more strands to fall out. Avoid over washing(3 washes a week maximum) as it can strip the natural oils providing moisture.
It's almost the new year! Get a jumpstart on your healthiest hair yet by scheduling a consultation to discuss your personal needs and I can put together a plan to reach all of your hair goals.
